This, exactly. Been catching up on some Greene as well, but only on fil-im.

Also: why do you and I threaten suicide in response to works of art so often?

I think the question should be: don’t other people feel like throwing themselves out windows in response to certain books? And if not, why not?

There’s a point where Le Carre meets Greene and I think A Perfect Spy might well be it. I read it in my Le Carre orgy of a few years back and may re-approach it. The trilogy leading to Smiley’s People is superb but in a very different way – less personal, more epic.

Anyhow. Back to the Holy Week grind.
